Lost & Found

Milwaukee

Summary

The Lost & Found opened in late 1978 at 618 N. 27th Street, just south of Wisconsin Avenue, and was promoted as Milwaukee's first women's disco and later as Wisconsin's largest women's bar. Owned by Pete and Bev Nilsson, former operators of the Leaded Shade, and managed by Karla Farr, it created a popular and distinctive space for women and is remembered as one of the first local gay bars to play New Wave music.

The bar hosted production shows, an annual corn roast, and sponsored softball, bowling, and darts teams. It closed in September 1984, around its sixth anniversary, and reopened under new ownership as the Music Box.
