The AIDS epidemic was a call to action for Brian Buggy, M.D. For over 20 years he has responded to that call with a dedication to the finest HIV care and a devotion to his patients. "At the beginning, very few doctors were taking care of AIDS patients. The fear of the unknown killer was palpable. But HIV acted like an infection, which was my training - so I accepted the work given me to do." One of Wisconsin�s leading infectious disease physicians, Buggy is deeply dedicated to his patients, gaining as much from them as they gain from him. "HIV is a long journey. As a doctor I learn much from my patients. Many of the most rewarding relationships that I have had as a physician have been a result of our shared experiences." In addition to treating hundreds of HIV and AIDS patients in his Milwaukee clinic, Buggy has served on the Board of Directors of the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin and was the founding chair of the Wisconsin AIDS Research Consortium which brought important new drug therapies to HIV patients. "HIV remains one of the most challenging areas in medicine today. But the progress in HIV care has been tremendous. If you had said even ten years ago that one day we could treat HIV with four pills a day - and that we could stop HIV in its tracks - I would have known you were dreaming.
