Pulse
Appleton
Summary
Pulse nightclub in Appleton may be one of the shortest-lasting clubs with the biggest start-up media splash. First appearing in the Bar Guide listings of Quest magazine in January 2008 (vol.15-01), they somehow garnered a half-page writeup in the March issue. 'Quest' talked to Madison native Erin Marheine, who opened the bar with business partner Patrick Tarkowski. In the article, Marheine says "It didn't start out as a gay club originally. It started... about two weeks into January (2008)...
(I originally) got into the bar business with my brother and another individual. I bought them out and we opened a gay bar. I brought in Patrick to run the food business." Pulse opened in October 2002 at 200 E. Washington Street, when owner Sharon Dixon remodeled and rebranded her long-running lesbian bar Fannie's.
Marketed as an all-around gay bar welcoming everyone, it offered a wide mix of programming including country-western dancing, karaoke, theme nights, and male revues. The bar was fairly short-lived, with its last bar-guide listing appearing in July 2004. Th
