Summary
Kruz opened in late 2006 on E. National Avenue, founded by longtime gay-bar bartender and manager Jerry Breiling together with his partner Serge Bellitelli. It took over a building that had previously housed the gay bars Gargoyles and then South Water Street Docks, and quickly became a favorite local destination. The owners added a large patio in their first summer and later enclosed it with a heated, tented year-round space popular with smokers.
The bar became known for its leather decor, laser lighting, and elaborate Christmas decorations. After Breiling died unexpectedly in October 2023, Bellitelli continued operating the bar.
