Grand Avenue Pub

Milwaukee

Summary

The Grand Avenue Pub, also known as "The GAP," operated on Milwaukee's West Wisconsin Avenue from June 1982 to July 1988. Functioning equally as a bar and restaurant, it served a busy lunch trade for the downtown business and hotel crowd and was especially popular among gay and lesbian patrons for its Friday fish fry. It was also convenient to the nearby Club Baths.

The pub's original owners, Paul and his partner Scott, briefly opened a nearby second bar, the Grand Avenue Annex, in 1986 when the lease appeared in doubt. As the surrounding area was slated for redevelopment, the pub closed on July 29, 1988 after about six successful years.
