First Street Tavern

Milwaukee

Summary

First Street Tavern, also known as 1st Street Tavern, opened in late 1981 or early 1982 on South 1st Street and was run by owners Larry Fleege and Leroy Stern, who lived behind the bar. It catered largely to the levi and leather crowd, at times discounting drinks for patrons in leather or softball uniforms, and supported its own softball team. The bar had a small but loyal following and was remembered as one of the first in the area to uncover its windows.

It closed in the summer of 1984, before a planned facade renovation was completed.
