D.I.X. Milwaukee, commonly called DIX, occupies a corner building at 739 S. 1st Street that had long operated as the straight bar Timers. Elizabeth Kujawa first opened the space in October 2007 under the name The General's, then relaunched it formally as D.I.X. in June 2010, running it with her brother and co-owner Cory Bartel. The name plays on the Roman numeral DIX, equal to 509. Located in the heart of Milwaukee's bar district, DIX became known for frequent drag shows and dance nights.
It relied largely on word of mouth and social media rather than paid advertising, and remained open into the 2020s.
