Summary
The 27th Street Danceteria opened in March 1985 under Chuck Cicirello, a prolific Milwaukee gay-bar operator whose earlier ventures included the Neptune Club and the Factory bars. The building had previously held the women's bar Lost & Found and, briefly, the Music Box. It began as an all-ages juice bar advertising late-night dancing, but legal restrictions on dancing without a liquor license forced it to obtain one and reopen in mid-1985. Over time it became known primarily as a Black gay and lesbian dance club.
It closed in June 1987. The 27th Street Danceteria operated at 618 N. 27th Street and was one of many Milwaukee bars run by Chuck Cicirello, who had earlier operated the Neptune Club and the Factory dance bars. It first opened around 1985 as an all-ages juice bar so that patrons of any age could meet and dance.Because local rules barred dancing past midnight without a liquor license, the venue applied for one in order to
