Summary

North Avenue that began as a jazz venue drawing nationally known performers and later embraced the 1950s drag floor-show craze. Among its featured acts, the international drag performer Billie Herrero gave her final drag performance there on New Year's Eve in 1953. The club closed abruptly in 1962 and was rebranded as Villa Venice, a venture associated with Milwaukee organized-crime figures and echoing a Chicago-area club of the same name. The original building still stands on North Avenue.
