Bon Ton

Milwaukee

Summary

Bon Ton was a short-lived Milwaukee tavern that operated around 1932 to 1934 at 206 E. Juneau Avenue. During the city's brief early-1930s "Pansy Craze," it was known for its drag performances and unconventional clientele, drawing the attention of reformers and police. Milwaukee police deputy Joseph Drewniak campaigned against venues like the Bon Ton, objecting to female impersonation as tavern entertainment.

By 1934, amid sustained police and public pressure, the Bon Ton had closed alongside other establishments such as the Nut House and College Inn.
